Communities of Practice
Personal Statement: As discussed in the org design portion, we want to avoid the ills of horizontal practice teams developing a culture of superiority a la “my discipline is the one true methodology.” Additionally, we want to ensure a level of quality in the practice of our various disciplines. The Communities of Practice frameworks allows our teams members to take ownership towards collaboratively(with the most skilled and experience per discipline) defining the unique methods and artifacts of our disciplines, create and provide training/learning for designers less skilled in each practice, and generate and take action towards maturing the practice within the team. Note, consider adding these practice maturation goals to the top level unit goals and definitely into the personal goals of the leaders within the CoPs (Communities of Practice).
