Snapshots of the Work Building and Scaling Design for Marriott
Outline slide for Bonvoy redesign project I led at Aquent Studios with Marriott. Note the format of this slide shows the HDD (Hypothesis Driven Design) laddering on left and the aspects of the work that will be presented through coming slides on right.
I was able to recruit, on-board, bring up to speed (business and strategy), and mature our way of working for the initial team in 6 weeks. From zero. At the end of the year in 2019, a difficult time of year to recruit in general.
Helped mature their application of “Atomic Design” including understanding for Atoms, Molecules, Organism …plus they had no concept of Templates or Truly “Pages.” Built the collaboration expectations between standards team, creative studio, and program train. Most impactfully we connected the system to technology/program train to allow the development effort to move forward.
Taking from IA and flows into collaborating with business leads and tech leads to define. Starting with defined “requirements” the designers here develop a high field design that is backed by agreed needs and any testing that is identified. Once the design is locked it is passed to standards to document any uniquenesses to the design system and then pass to completion for “batch” to be taken up by program train and the supporting product designers.
In addition to developing the concept of product design support to allow for more direct communication and insuring that what was designed was built. Additionally plugged into program train leadership to allow capture, documentation of design concerns, which became critical as it became clear the program would be scaled back and eventually frozen.
Provided Tobii (eye-tracking setup, implementation). Conducted mobile dining qualitative research that led to developing protocol planning/execution/synthesis templates and communication of capabilities of digital experiments.
Examples of maturing. Team structuring and utilization of the designers. Expected artifacts, process of design, and logistics of documenting (including crucial tool concerns and bridging a unique relationship to INFO SEC.) Intake system and a support team for the co-branding effort. Executive communication tracking including how to raise flags, and represent positions of the creative studio.
Earned a commitment to triple team size/spend.
