Keys to Project Management:
I.) A main bias I have developed is the value of advocating that (especially) product design should not be seen as absolutely time locked or see as “active development” vs “support and maintenance.” Or perhaps more clearly stated, that any portion of a product or services life should be supported by design. As a result of this, I have developed a bias around recommending that vertical teams be organized and set against products or services long term, rather than only supporting certain timespans of its “discovery”, “design and development”, or “re-design.”
II.) The term “Agile”, as with much of the terminology around digital, can mean different things to different people. For me a.) I believe its crucial to actually experience first hand regular work of a given team in order to develop a belief of whether their Agile meets your definition of Agile. For me, Agile is about is favoring communication over documentation, favoring people over process, favoring iteration over strict timelines….and this is coming from someone who values and believes there is absolutely still a place for documentation, process, and timelines.
III.) I’ve studied and earned my PMP… very interesting test and certification btw. Boiling concepts from traditional general project management:
IV.) SAFe Agile, especially the “program train” concept is a pretty cool framework. I would recommend familiarity in order either to integrate with likely product/technology partners or to understand how you might utilize this framework to effectively management segments of work within our own design teams.
